Marketing Articles, Special Reports, and Tip Sheets - Generate More Leads And Increase Sales

Share Your Expertise To Blow Your Competitors Out of the Water!

Marketing articles, special reports and tip sheets are easy and inexpensive to produce. And when they’re done correctly, they can contribute greatly to your revenue stream.

Creating marketing articles, special reports and tip sheets really requires nothing more than some kind of a word processor and you. There’s really no need for any up front investment other than your time to potentially research and write about what you already know.

By sharing what you know, you’ll actually compel your prospects to reveal themselves to you. These ideal marketing tools can be used as incredibly productive lead generation tools or as very profitable income producing products that you sell to your target market. The people who request your reports are those who are “ready” to buy what you offer.

What You Know Is Valuable

You are a valuable resource of information. I tell my clients and those that attend my presentations this all the time. As a small business owner, you mostly get paid for what you know and for being able to apply what it is that you know.

But what you may not realize is that this same knowledge is also one of your best marketing assets. When you begin to share what you know then you demonstrate your expertise. That in turn boosts your credibility which will get you more clients.

Plus, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to profit from sharing what you know if you so choose. In other words – people aren’t always going to buy you or what you have to sell when they find you. But if you’re providing valuable information, they might just be willing to buy a little piece of you in the way of a special report or collection of tip sheets.

For much more detailed how-to information on creating information products like this, I suggest checking out

Make Your Knowledge Sell

by Monique Harris and Ken Evoy. It's a comprehensive (i.e., no step left out) guide that gives you everything you need to know. They make it possible for you to develop and sell your own information products.

So What Are Marketing Articles or Special Reports?

Generally, a marketing article or special report is a multi-page report packed with valuable how-to information that your audience can actually put to use right away. The goal is to educate the reader on how to achieve a certain objective, or avoid or even solve a certain problem, issue or challenge.

What then is a tip sheet and how do they differ?

Tip sheets are really just a shorter version of special report. Instead of being more complete “how-to” types of documents, the tips provided are usually kept short and to the point.

The basic structure of creating marketing articles, special reports, or tip sheets is pretty simple:

  • Identify and outline a common problem, issue or challenge with which your target audience might be trying to overcome. Or, focus on a key objective that they might typically be trying to achieve.

  • Discuss the basics of a solution or what can be done to solve this problem or achieve this outcome.

  • Consider providing a few examples of how others have dealt with this issue and what they have done.

  • Wrap it up with a review of a few key points to remember or some advice on how to begin taking action.

And that’s really all there is to it. You’ll be amazed at how easy these are to actually produce and the results you’ll begin to generate.

Why Don't More Small Business Owners Leverage This Business Building Technique?

Unfortunately, many small business owners are very hesitant to share what they know through marketing articles, special reports, or tip sheets. It just seems counter-intuitive to give away information that you usually get paid for. You think you’ll never make any money if you’re giving away your expertise.

But, what you’ll find is actually the opposite. We’re not talking about sharing in great detail every trade secret that you posses for free. Sharing some of the knowledge and information that makes you great at what you do will help you establish authority and credibility with potential prospects.

It’s about increasing the ‘know, like, and trust factor.’ Those who really need what you offer and are serious about getting some help will contact you because of the knowledge you’ve shared. They may not be ready to buy just yet, but they’ll be more likely to want to explore how you might be able to help them further.

Still Not Ready To Give Away The Farm?

Trust me, you don't have to give it all away.

Sharing valuable beneficial information with your prospects and clients is a great lead generator for your business. And once your marketing articles, special reports or tip sheets are written, you can use them again and again. You simply need to update the information every so often.

Consider the many ways to use your marketing articles, special reports and tip sheets to add clients and revenues to your business:

  • Use them as a lead generation tool. You can give them away through your web site or offer to send them as a follow-up to the connections you make. This allows prospects to see some of what you’re about and what you’re capable of before they take the next step.

  • Use them as an additional revenue stream for your business. Sell them as information products either on your web site or as a follow up for presentations or talks that you give.

  • Use them as bonuses for the products or services you’re already selling. Have you ever watched an infomercial and noticed how most of them offer multiple bonuses for anyone that buys the main product or service they’re promoting.

  • They can be turned into articles that could be sold to a magazine or web site.

My advice is to start writing today! You are a wealth of information. You just need to start sharing it with those who can benefit from what you know.

Don't worry about writing perfectly. Just start writing. You can always get others to help with proofreading and editing. Try dictating into a microrecorder or have someone else interview you. Then someone else can type up the notes and you've got something valuable.

What you know is valuable. Begin sharing it through marketing articles, special reports or tip sheets to generate more leads or more revenue!
